Kapil Sharma Breaks Silence On ‘Racist’ Remark At Atlee, Internet Divided

Comedian Kapil Sharma found himself embroiled in controversy after being accused of making a racist comment towards filmmaker Atlee during a recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show. The episode featured the team of Baby John, including director Kalees, writer and co-producer Atlee, and lead actors Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi.

The controversy arose after a clip from the episode went viral, where Kapil asked Atlee, “Atlee sir, actually you are so young, and aap itne bade producer-director ban gaye hain. Has it ever happened to you that you met a star for the first time, and you thought that you were alone. He said 'where is Atlee?'”

A social media user accused Kapil of subtly mocking Atlee’s appearance, tweeting, “Kapil Sharma subtly insults Atlee’s looks? Atlee responds like a boss: Don’t judge by appearance, judge by the heart.” The tweet triggered widespread trolling of Kapil, with netizens accusing him of making an insensitive remark.

In response, Kapil broke his silence on X (formerly Twitter), retweeting the post and clarifying his intent. “Dear sir, can you pls explain me where n when I talked about looks in this video? Pls don’t spread hate on social media thank you. (Guys watch n decide by yourself, don’t follow anybody’s tweet like a sheep),” he wrote.

Internet Divided Over Kapil’s Remarks

Kapil’s clarification has sparked a debate online. Some netizens continued to criticize him, with one user claiming, “Kapil Sharma’s downfall. He’s sharing his side of the story on Twitter ,” while another alleged, “You implied directly and laughed when Atlee said he understood what you were hinting at. Shame on you, Kapil.”

However, many fans came to his defense. A user explained, “He was clearly talking about how young Atlee is for someone so successful, not about his appearance.” Another added, “Kapil only mentioned how young Atlee is, never said anything about his looks.”

The segment has reignited discussions about the tone and humor of The Kapil Sharma Show, which often walks a fine line between lighthearted banter and offensive remarks. As debates continue, both fans and critics are urging careful judgment before forming opinions based on viral clips.
