Karnataka BJP accuses Congress of stealing SC/ST funds, demands answers from Rahul
A political storm erupted in Bengaluru as the Karnataka BJP made serious allegations against the state Congress government of misappropriation of SC/ST sub-plan funds. Opposition leader R Ashok has demanded Rahul Gandhi to speak on this issue in the Lok Sabha.
Ashok revealed in the Assembly that out of Rs 42,018 crore of SCSP-TSP in three consecutive budgets, about Rs 35,000 crore was diverted to guarantee schemes. This left only Rs 7,000 crore for development programmes, which is a ‘planned loot’ of Dalit-tribal communities.
He said that Rs 39,000 crore meant for schemes like education, health are being misused. These funds are being created as ‘personal piggy banks’ to hide the financial mismanagement of the Chief Minister.
Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, Ashok said, the leaders who give the slogan of ‘As many people as there are rights’ are silent on this historical injustice of Karnataka. Is this Congress’s commitment to equality?
The BJP leader warned that more than 70 organizations are ready to protest. Asked for a clear promise from CM Siddaramaiah to stop fund diversion in the upcoming budget.
This controversy is giving a new edge to the politics of Karnataka, where BJP is claiming to protect SC/ST interests.
