Good news for RCB fans before IPL 2026, Chinnaswamy will remain Bengaluru’s home ground.

RCB Home Ground in IPL 2026: The Karnataka government has approved the holding of cricket matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with conditions. Now in the Indian Premier League 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be seen playing its home matches on this ground.

On June 4, 2025, 11 people lost their lives in a stampede during the celebrations of RCB’s first IPL trophy win. After this, there was a ban on organizing matches in the stadium. There was confusion about whether IPL matches will be held here or not, but now the situation has become clear.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar’s statement

“In the interest of youth and cricket lovers, the government has decided to allow further matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium,” DK Shivakumar told the media at Vidhana Soudha.

He said that this permission has been given with strict conditions. These include:

  • Ticket sales only as per approved capacity
  • Large entrance gates for crowd control
  • Deploying ambulances and medical facilities
  • Following the recommendations of the Michael D’Cunha Commission

Shivakumar said that this is a relief news for cricket fans and taking lessons from recent incidents, more vigilance will be taken in future.

Government’s meeting with KSCA and RCB

Earlier, the state government held a high-level meeting with Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB and senior officials. The meeting was chaired by Home Minister G. Parameshwara.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Tushar Girinath, DGP M.A. attended the meeting. Salim, Greater Bengaluru Authority Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, Home Secretary K.V. Sharath Chandra, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Many officials including Dayanand and KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad were present.

Parameshwara said that instructions have been given to implement the major recommendations of the retired Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission formed to investigate the stampede. Some of the recommendations relate to infrastructure, such as upgrading gates, walkways and holding areas, while others relate to immediate safety measures such as ambulances, doctors and triage facilities.

keeping an eye on the opening match

As per tradition, the opening match of the IPL is played at the home ground of the defending champion. Since RCB had won the previous title, the opening match of the 2026 season is proposed to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, for which permission was sought from the government. The Home Minister made it clear that in case of any untoward incident, the responsibility of organizing the event will be on KSCA and RCB.
