On the other hand, it is important for Congress to save these seats, because defeat can be linked to the government’s performance.

On Davangere South seat, Congress gave ticket to Samarth, grandson of the late MLA. His hold and sympathy in the area were considered important behind this decision. However, after the elections, differences within the party also emerged. Congress took action against some leaders who were accused of trying to defeat the party candidate.
