Karnataka School Holiday: Schools to remain closed for 8 days this month

New Delhi: This month, there are a total of 8 days of holiday for Karnataka schools. The month of December has five Sundays which include December 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. In some of the schools, December 14 was observed as a holiday for Huthri, a harvest festival in the region. Moreover, schools will remain closed on December 25 due to Christmas celebrations.

Some of the schools in the state will also witness a week-long Christmas break. The holiday dates for this month in Karnataka schools include December 1, 8, 14, 15, 22, 24, 25, and 29.

Recently, many private schools in Bengaluru decided to reduce the long Christmas vacation. The three-day-long Christmas holiday has been shortened to make up for the loss of classes owing to the school closure due to heavy rainfall.

This year, Karnataka schools had a significant number of holidays. After summer vacations in the months of April and May, there were school closures due to the inclement weather. Cyclone Fengal led to many disruptions in the regions leading to school closures. An orange and yellow alert was declared in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Udupi districts, Kodagu, Chamarajanagara, Hassan, Mandya, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts. Moreover, there were also extended breaks for Navaratri and Diwali.

To honour late former Chief Minister SM Krishna, the Karnataka government declared a public holiday on December 11 for all government offices, schools, colleges and aided institutions. A three-day mourning period was also announced by the government between December 10 to December 12, 2024.
