Stone pelting during Shivaji Jayanti procession, violence broke out between two communities in Bagalkot, Karnataka.
Karnataka Stone Pelting: Tension spread in the city after an incident of stone pelting during a Shivaji Jayanti procession in Kila Oni area of Bagalkot district of Karnataka. During the procession, some miscreants threw stones, some of which also hit the policemen deployed at the spot. According to sources, blood stains were also seen on the SP’s uniform. The incident reportedly took place near a mosque, following which an altercation broke out and created tension in the area.

After stone pelting, people took to the streets to protest. The police immediately intervened and dispersed the crowd. Additional police forces were deployed to bring the situation under control and the area was evacuated.
Police say that the situation is currently peaceful, but Hindu activists have demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They have warned that if their demands are not met then they will call for Bagalkot bandh. Police have increased security and deployed additional police force to prevent any untoward incident.
Uproar in Belagavi too
Another sensitive incident has also come to light in Belagavi district, where mischievous elements defaced the statue of Sangolli Rayanna. The incident took place in Machhe village, where black ink was smeared on the statue. After this incident, tension spread in the area and the residents demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase visited the spot and inspected the situation.

The statue was installed after protests by Kannada activists, and the incident has angered the local people. Police have registered the complaint and started investigating the matter.
