Kartik Sharma on Valuable Advice from Dinesh Karthik

Kartik Sharma, the 19-year-old, has already made headlines with his outstanding performances in domestic matches for Rajasthan. With the upcoming IPL 2026 auction, the franchises have expressed their interest in the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter.
Kartik Sharma Discloses Dinesh Karthik’s Guidance During RCB Trials
The keeper has disclosed that he was present during the trials of many teams for the mini auction. The teams include Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Delhi Capitals.
The player gave away that he is a fan of the current champions RCB, but when asked which team he would like to play for in IPL 2026, he maintained that he had no specific preference. Nevertheless, the player from Rajasthan also revealed some of the tips that their batting coach and mentor, Dinesh Karthik, provided to him.
“I have gone through trials for six-seven franchises so far. Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Chennai, RCB, RR, Delhi, and then the rest. My practice matches in the city of Chennai were good. Mahi wasn’t there, but the other coaches were there, and they told me that they had a lot of fun watching me bat. Dinesh bhaiya talked to me during the trials. He said he was happy with my batting and asked me to shift my focus a bit towards keeping,” said Kartik on the Game Changers YouTube Channel.
The keeper-batter, along with his mentor, also pointed out the role played by former CSK fast bowler Deepak Chahar in making him a hard-hitting batsman who scores quickly. Kartik also narrated how his marvellous feat of hitting 26 sixes in one match brought him back into the limelight for selection to the Under-19 team after the world pandemic had led to a setback.
I was around four to five years old when my father introduced me to cricket. Later I moved into the academy, run by Deepak Chahar’s father, and played for the under-14 and under-16 teams. A bad spell lasted two to three years during the pandemic, but then I hit about 26 sixes in my first match to be selected for the under-19 team,’ he said.

Backed by a superb domestic record, the player is going to be the one who creates the biggest bidding war among the teams in the IPL 2026 auction. Teams that are on the lookout for a young Indian wicketkeeper-batter would like to have him in their squad for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.
Kartik has also performed excellently in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 season so far. He has scored 133 runs in five matches, with a blazing strike rate of 160.24.
But unfortunately, the young player has been forced to withdraw from the rest of the SMAT 2025 Super League due to a finger injury.
“The injury is not that serious. In two months I will be back with the team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy,” the wicketkeeper stated.
