'Despite an average of 752, Karun Nair will not be a part of the Champions Trophy'

Delhi: Vidarbha batsman Karun Nair is in tremendous form at the moment and is making waves in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Vidarbha captain Nair has batted with an excellent average of 752 by scoring five centuries in this tournament and has been out only once so far. After his consecutive excellent innings, the discussion has intensified whether Karun Nair can get a place in India's Champions Trophy 2025 team.

Dinesh Karthik gave statement

Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik believes that the Indian team is almost final for the Champions Trophy. Even though Karthik has praised Nair's form, he says that there is no possibility of much change in the team.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said, “Karun Nair, it is great to see this form. Mayank Agarwal is also in excellent form. But the team is already almost decided. There is no scope for much change.”

He further said, “It is tempting to include Nair in the team and he has made himself a part of the discussion. But, I don't think he will be able to make a place in the Champions Trophy team. However, if he keeps playing like this, why not? He plays well against both fast bowlers and spinners. It is a pleasure to see this.”

Big bang in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Karun has scored 752 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 125.96, which includes five centuries. His innings of 88 runs in 44 balls in the semi-final against Maharashtra took Vidarbha to the final. Now Vidarbha will face Nair's old team Karnataka in the final.

Team for Champions Trophy to be announced soon

BCCI can take the final decision on India's Champions Trophy and ODI series against England in the meeting on January 18-19. India will play its first match against Bangladesh on 19 February in Dubai. After this, there will be a high-voltage match against Pakistan on 23 February.
