Kashmiri man found in suspicious car near Red Fort, fake NIA card recovered, cheating in the name of getting a job

Delhi Police has arrested a person from near the Red Fort, who was duping people in the name of getting them jobs by pretending to be an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The accused is said to be originally from Kashmir. According to the police, the accused used to lure unemployed youth by luring them with government jobs and extorting huge amounts of money from them. To give confidence, he used to pretend to be an officer posted in NIA and showed the fake identity card he had with him.

Investigation revealed that a fake ID card of NIA has been recovered from the accused, through which he used to assure people that he was associated with a big central agency. Police say that the accused had been committing this type of fraud for a long time and has targeted many people. At present, Delhi Police is interrogating the accused and trying to find out who else is involved in this gang and how many people have been cheated. The police have appealed to the people to be cautious of anyone asking for money in the name of getting a job and to immediately report such suspicious activities.

Kotwali police station of Delhi Police, during patrolling, arrested a fake NIA officer from a suspicious car behind the Red Fort. This action was taken on 18 February 2026. According to the police, during patrolling, a black Hyundai Santro car (number JK01L9913) was seen parked in a suspicious condition near Delhi Chalo Park. On suspicion, the police team investigated the vehicle and found two people sitting in it.

Showed fake card to police

Of the two people caught from a suspicious car behind the Red Fort, one has been identified as Mudassar, a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, while the other is said to be a minor boy. Both are being detained and interrogated. According to the police, during interrogation, Mudassar showed an identity card claiming himself to be an officer associated with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), but the card appeared suspicious at first glance. After this the police brought both of them to the police station and started intensive interrogation.

Investigation revealed that the accused is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir and used to extort money from economically weaker families by luring them with jobs. He used to assure people that he had access to high level in Delhi and he could get a job in government or private sector.

According to the police, the accused left Kashmir with himself on 12th February and reached Delhi on the night of 13th February. Both were staying in a guest house in Jama Masjid area. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he had contacted some people in Delhi, but he could not produce any concrete evidence or documents. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, joint interrogation was conducted with the Special Cell, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the concerned central agency.

Joint interrogation revealed that the accused used to make fake identity cards and pretend to be an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and cheat common people in the name of getting them jobs. It also became clear in the investigation that no such identity card was issued by the NIA. The police have registered a case against the accused under sections of fraud. At present, his interrogation is going on and efforts are being made to find out how many people he has cheated so far and whether any other person is also involved in this crime or not.
