‘KD The Devil’ arrives on OTT after rough start in cinemas

Kannada action film KD The Devil is now heading to OTT after a difficult run in theatres and months of controversy around one of its songs.

The film, directed by Prem and starring Dhruva Sarja, Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty, released in cinemas on April 30.

It received a mixed response and earned Rs 24.19 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk.

Now, the makers are hoping for a second chance online. The film will stream on Sea5 from June 5.

Announcing the release, Zee5 Kannada posted: “Dust everywhere you step, blood everywhere you blow! The countdown to the Devil’s entry begins.”

The trailer shared by OTT platform pushes the film’s violent action and introduces Dhruva Sarja’s character Kaalidasa, also called KD, as a man trapped in something much bigger than himself.

However, even before the film reached theatres, KD The Devil had already made headlines for the song Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse (Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke) featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt.

The song faced criticism over its suggestive lyrics. Nora later said she did not understand the meaning of the lyrics while filming the track.

Hindi lyric writer Raqueeb Alam also said he only translated what director Prem had written.

After complaints and legal petitions, the Hindi version of the song was removed from YouTube and other platforms.

The NHRC and women’s commissions in Haryana and Karnataka also stepped in. Later, Nora and Sanjay pledged support for girls’ education.
