Keanu Reeves film ‘The Matrix 5’ moves ahead with promising script update

The Matrix 5 has received a promising update two years after its initial confirmation with director Drew Goddard revealing that work on the script is actively underway.

There had been little public information about the project. Now in a new interview Goddard confirmed progress.

“I’m in my writing cave writing. I don’t know how long I’ll be in that writing cave, but whenever I come out, I’ll have news to share,” he said.

The franchise stars Keanu Reeves as Neo a role he most recently reprised in The Matrix Resurrections.

The 2021 sequel underperformed at the box office earning approximately $160 million worldwide against a reported $190 million budget.

Despite the financial setback Warner Bros. moved forward with plans for another installment.

Notably the upcoming sequel will mark the first film in the franchise without direct involvement from The Wachowskis who created and directed the original trilogy.

“The Matrix Resurrections” featured Reeves alongside a returning and expanded cast that included Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra, Hugo Weaving, Monica Bellucci and Eréndira Ibarra.
