Kejriwal’s big bet! Said to the judge in the High Court – ‘Remove your name, I will fight my case myself’
Once again high voltage drama has been seen in the Delhi Excise Policy case. During the hearing in Delhi High Court, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a big decision and told the court that he will represent himself in this case. Actually, Kejriwal has demanded the removal of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma from the hearing of this case, on which the court has taken his application on record.
Kejriwal vs CBI: Heated debate in court
Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, on behalf of CBI, strongly opposed Kejriwal’s application in the High Court. Kejriwal said directly in the court, “I have filed an application to remove the judge.” On this, Tushar Mehta retorted and said that some people are shining their career through the accused and efforts are being made to defame the judiciary. He quipped that if Kejriwal himself wanted to argue, he should remove his lawyers.
‘I did not give Vakalatnama to anyone’
When the court asked Kejriwal whether he would really argue himself, he clearly said, “Yes, I will argue myself.” Kejriwal also clarified that at present he has not given his ‘Vakalatnama’ to any lawyer. At the same time, Tushar Mehta called it a serious matter and said that allegations are being made against the judiciary in the country’s capital. The court has currently issued a notice to the CBI and scheduled the next hearing for Monday (April 13) at 2:30 pm.
What is the whole controversy and what has happened so far?
The whole matter is related to the old excise policy of Delhi. Let us tell you that on 27 February 2026, the lower court had acquitted Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and 19 other accused in this case. CBI has challenged this decision in the High Court. Kejriwal wants Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma not to hear this case. However, earlier Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay had rejected Kejriwal’s request to transfer the case to another bench.
