Kelly Clarkson reflects on handling kids after husband passed away
Kelly Clarkson is prioritising stability and presence for her children following the death of her former husband, Brandon Blackstock.
An insider tells PEOPLE that the Grammy-winning singer has been “heartbroken” for her two children, River, 10, and Remington, 8, after losing their father in August 2025.
Blackstock passed away at the age of 48 after a three-year battle with melanoma.
“Kelly is obviously heartbroken for her kids. Losing their dad is incredibly painful and confusing,” the source shared. “But she’s also very grounded. She’s not someone who falls apart. She looks at life realistically and does everything she can to make things as steady and loving as possible for her kids.”
According to the insider, Clarkson’s main priority remains being emotionally available for her children during this difficult chapter.
“Her focus is to be present for her kids,” the source added, noting that the Stronger hitmaker is “a great mum” who is doing everything she can to protect their sense of normalcy.
Blackstock’s death was confirmed in a statement released by a family representative on August 7, which revealed that he had “bravely battled cancer for more than three years.”
“He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” the statement read, while requesting privacy as the family continues to grieve.
Clarkson and Blackstock, who divorced in 2022, remained committed to co-parenting their children until his passing.
