Kerala Blasters File Official Complaint After Fan Unrest in Mohammedan’s Stadium

Kerala Blasters FC has officially lodged a complaint with the Indian Super League (ISL) authorities following fan unrest during their 2-1 victory over Mohammedan Sporting at Kishore Bharati Stadium.

The game was paused after Mohammedan supporters threw sticks, bottles, and set off firecrackers in protest of a denied penalty decision, creating safety concerns for both players and fans.

Kerala Blasters owner Nikhil Bhardwaj took to Twitter to confirm the club’s formal complaint and reassure the safety of traveling supporters:

“Our team is on the ground to ensure the safety of fans. As of now, all of them are out of the stadium. An official complaint has also been lodged with the league. Disgusting to see such unsavoury scenes.”

The chaos erupted after Mohammedan Sporting’s appeal for a second penalty was waved off by the referee.

The crowd’s agitation escalated into a dangerous situation, forcing the players to leave the pitch temporarily before play could resume.

Kerala Blasters eventually sealed the victory with goals from Kwame Peprah and Jesus.

Player Reactions

Kerala Blasters’ captain Adrian Luna voiced his concern to the media over the security at the stadium, stating:

“I think the security of the stadium should be better and improved.”

Teammate Noah Sadaoui also shared his frustration to Revz Sports about the lack of respect shown by certain sections of the crowd, adding:

“There were some bottles which were thrown at us, we are players and deserve respect from the fans.”

The sentiment from the Blasters’ camp highlights the need for better security measures to ensure the safety of players and supporters alike.

Next Steps

The ISL is expected to investigate the incident, with potential sanctions for Mohammedan Sporting due to the misconduct of their fans. Kerala Blasters’ formal complaint could lead to increased scrutiny of stadium safety protocols across the league, ensuring that such dangerous events do not happen again.
