He reached Telangana from Kerala to repay a loan of about Rs 1,000 taken from a friend in Saudi Arabia 35 years ago. Not only this, he returned Rs 25,000 by adding interest along with the principal amount. This story is of Ismail from Kerala and Idla Lachanna, resident of Dharampuri in Jagtial district of Telangana. Both of them worked together in Abqaiq city of Saudi Arabia in 1991. They became friends there.

In a time of need, Ismail borrowed 120 Saudi Riyals from Lachanna, which at that time was worth about Rs 1,000 in India. Ismail had promised to return the money soon, but after some time Lachanna returned to India and both lost contact.

I only remembered the name of the village.

Due to the absence of mobile phones and social media, both did not remain in touch for years. However, Ismail did not forget the debt he had incurred. Recently he decided to return the loan. He neither had Lachanna’s phone number nor his complete address. All he remembered was that his friend was a resident of Dharampuri in Jagtial district of Telangana.

On the basis of this information Ismail reached Telangana from Kerala. They gathered information about the area on the internet and interrogated local people and finally reached Lachanna’s house.

Handed over 25 thousand rupees to the family

When Ismail reached Lachanna’s house, he was working in a Gulf country. In such a situation, Ismail handed over Rs 25,000 to his family. Later the family members got the two friends talking through a WhatsApp call. Lachanna also became emotional after returning Rs 25,000 in exchange for 120 Saudi Riyals taken 35 years ago.

Lachanna told that both of them lived together in Saudi Arabia, cooked food and ate together. They had a deep friendship there. He said he did not know how Ismail accounted for 120 riyals and returned Rs 25,000, but it was an example of his honesty and friendship.

According to Lachanna, at that time the price of 120 Saudi Riyal was around Rs 1,000. He believes that Ismail would have returned this amount by adding interest for so many years. He said that he is extremely grateful to Ismail for keeping his promise even after so many years.
