Kerala Politics: Kerala Congress leader D. V. Satinash took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday (May 18). Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and many senior leaders of Congress were present at this oath taking ceremony. In the first cabinet meeting of the UDF government held immediately after the swearing-in, many important decisions were taken for the people.
Chief Minister Satishan announced free Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (SDRTC) bus travel scheme for women. He said that the detailed guidelines of this scheme will be announced soon. It is believed that this decision has been taken with the aim of providing relief to women in the state in public transport.

Apart from this, an important decision to establish a separate department for senior citizens in the state was also taken in the cabinet meeting. Chief Minister Satishan claimed that this is the first such initiative in the country. “A society is judged by how it treats its senior citizens. Kerala should become an ideal civilized society by taking care of its senior citizens with dignity,” said Satishan.
Meanwhile, the government has also given a big relief to the Asha activists who were protesting in front of the secretariat. Fulfilling the promise made before the elections, the Cabinet has decided to increase the salary of Asha workers by Rs 3 thousand per month.
