Delhi: The stir in England cricket has intensified after the 1-4 defeat to Australia in the Ashes 2025-26. Meanwhile, former England star batsman Kevin Pietersen has given a strong statement on social media platform X.

Pietersen said that the investigation by England and Wales Cricket Board is of no use. He wrote in clear words that he can do the entire investigation of ECB for free. According to him, there are only a few players in the team who can compete with strong teams like Australia or India.

Pietersen raised questions on England’s performance

Pietersen said, “Except for players like Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Joffra Archer, Jacob Bethel and Harry Brook, no player played with the right mindset. Apart from these, the level of the rest of the team is not enough to compete with big teams like Australia or India.”

He also said, “This was clearly visible in this Australia tour. While Australia was playing without many of its important players. Despite this, England’s performance remained weak.”

The former player described the pre-tour talks, discussion on discipline and now the investigation as mere distractions. He wrote that the problem is very simple and the truth is in front of everyone.

ECB has announced review

This statement has come at a time when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced to launch a full review after the defeat in the Ashes. ECB CEO Richard Gould has said that the team did not meet its targets and now the focus is on the 2027 Ashes.

The England team is currently ranked seventh in the points table of the World Test Championship 2025-27. Even in the last three times the team has not been able to reach the WTC finals.
