Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a gathering at the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Kevadia on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day, said some powers within and outside India are trying to destabilise the country.
In a speech addressed to the nation, on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which is now celebrated as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Modi took a jibe at the opposition, too, claiming that for 70 years, the Constitution was not fully implemented and that those who claim to protect it, have insulted it.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi paid floral tributes at the Statue of Unity, and administered the Ekta Diwas pledge. He then observed the Ekta Diwas Parade, which had 16 marching contingents from nine states, one Union Territory police, four central armed police forces, National Cadet Corps, and a marching band.

For 70 years, the Constitution was not implemented in the entire country, PM Modi said. “Those who chant the name of the Constitution had insulted it so much. The reason was the wall of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 has been buried forever.”
He added that people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the age-old agenda of separatism and terrorism.
PM Modi said some forces within and outside India are against a developed India, and want to deter global investors.
He said that Naxalism is counting its last breath in the country, because of the efforts of the NDA-led government in the past decade. He added that as Naxalism is ending in jungles, “urban Naxals are raising their heads”.
He urged people to identify the “alliance of Urban Naxals” who are trying to divide the country along caste lines and are attempting to weaken India’s unity and society, and fight against them.
PM Modi said that the Centre brought ‘one nation, one tax’ system through GST, and ‘one nation, one health insurance’ scheme through Ayushman Bharat.
He said the country was moving towards the implementation of ‘one nation, one secular civil code’ which will strengthen our country, and ‘one nation, one election’, which will strengthen the democracy.
The northeast faced numerous challenges, PM Modi said, but the government tackled separatism through dialogue, trust, and development.
