Khambatki Tunnel : Pune to Satara journey will be smooth; A big update regarding Khambataki Ghat
Khambatki Tunnel | A big comforting decision has come out for motorists traveling on Pune-Satara highway. The popular 6-lane twin-tube tunnel constructed at Khambatki Ghat has been commissioned for traffic on a pilot basis. This tunnel will greatly reduce the detours in the ghats, traffic jams and the risk of accidents.
The project is being implemented on National Highway No. 48, which has daily traffic of thousands of vehicles. This route is considered very important for vehicles going to Pune, Satara, Kolhapur and onwards to Bangalore. Therefore, drivers paid special attention to this tunnel.
The old road in Khambatki Ghat was always considered dangerous due to steep ups and downs, sharp turns and narrow passage. Traveling through Khambhatki Ghat is considered very risky during rainy season. In this ghat, the picture of trucks stalling, long queues of vehicles and accidents was always visible. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) undertook a state-of-the-art tunnel project to overcome this problem. Now its first phase has started to materialize. Khambatki Tunnel

Many modern facilities have been installed in the tunnel for the safety of motorists. It includes LED light system, CCTV cameras, emergency response system, fire fighting facility, reflector marking, guard rails, control room monitoring. This will make the journey safer and more comfortable.
This new tunnel will reduce the travel time from Pune to Satara by about 15 minutes. Slow traffic in the Ghats, and traffic will no longer suffer. Also fuel will be saved. Khambatki Tunnel
