Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and considered his possible successor, will not be able to publicly attend his father’s funeral. Given the ongoing tension and security threats in the area, there remains uncertainty over their involvement.

Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader in India, said that Mojtaba Khamenei himself wanted to pay his last respects to his father by attending the funeral, but it was not possible to do so due to the advice of security agencies.

Why won’t Mojtaba attend?

Ayatollah Hakim Elahi further said that representatives of Mojtaba Khamenei have also indicated that he wants to appear publicly and meet his supporters. However, in view of the current security situation, security agencies have advised them to avoid attending any public event. In such a situation, it is expected that Mojtaba Khamenei will not be seen in public during the final farewell of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Preparations are going on in full swing for the last farewell of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It is believed that a large number of people from all over the world will attend his funeral and the rituals related to it. Some media reports claim that around 2 crore people are expected to attend, although this figure has not been officially confirmed. Iran has also sent formal invitations to many prominent political figures of India.

These Indian leaders were invited to Khamenei’s funeral

The Iranian government has also invited Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Congress media department head Pawan Khera to attend the funeral ceremony. According to news agency PTI, Congress sources say that Salman Khurshid can be sent to Iran as the party’s representative. Pawan Kheda also confirmed receiving the invitation and said that the final decision will be taken by the Congress President.
According to sources, the main events related to Khamenei’s final farewell will be organized in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad between July 5 and 9.

The Indian government on Thursday announced that Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain will represent India at the funeral of former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to the Foreign Ministry, both the leaders will leave for Iran on July 3.
