Khamenei’s funeral: Bihar Governor and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from India will attend

New Delhi: Quoting Iranian sources, media agency ANI has said that Bihar Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pavitra Margherita will attend the state funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on behalf of the Government of India.

Invitation was sent to PM Modi 

Iran had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral and burial ceremonies of Khamenei. Millions of mourners and dignitaries from many countries are expected to attend the events, which will be held in several cities across Iran from July 4 to July 9.

Programs will run for a week, burial will take place in Mashhad   

The funeral programs will continue for a week. They will start from Tehran and conclude with the burial of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Mashhad. Mashhad is his birthplace and is considered one of the holiest cities in Shia Islam.

Last darshan in Tehran, state procession on 6th July   

Khamenei’s body will be laid to rest in Tehran’s Grand Mosala Complex on July 4 and 5. Here common people will be able to pay their last tribute to him. A state funeral procession will be taken out on 6 July. A public holiday has been declared in Tehran province during the period of official mourning.

The Iranian administration is on alert regarding security and arrangements, as a large number of foreign guests are expected to arrive. The participation of Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and Holy Margherita from the Indian side is considered important in terms of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Died in America-Israel attack    

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was killed in joint US and Israeli strikes on Tehran on 28 February, according to Iranian officials. There is an atmosphere of mourning in Iran since his death.

The death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is being considered a major political change for the country’s 46-year-old Shia theocracy (Islamic Republic).
