Khel Ratna Awards 2024 List Manu Bhaker Gukesh D Harmanpreet Singh: Two-time Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker and world chess champion D Gukesh were presented the Major Dhyan Chand Sports Award by President Draupadi Murmu at the National Sports Awards ceremony here. When Ratna arrived to receive the award on Friday, he was welcomed with thunderous applause.
Let us tell you that 18 year old Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh had won the World Chess Championship title in Singapore on 11 December. Gukesh is the first player in the world to win this title at such a young age. While Manu Bhaker won double Olympic medals at the Paris Olympic Games in August–September. With the help of his two medals, India won a total of 6 medals in the Paris Olympics.
Apart from them, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Paralympic gold medalist high jumper Praveen Kumar were also honored with the country's highest sporting honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
Harmanpreet was a member of the hockey team that won bronze medals in the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. He was also the team captain at the Paris Olympics. On the other hand, Praveen, who had an injury to his left leg, won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics and converted it into a gold in Paris.
Apart from these, 5 coaches received the Dronacharya Award, out of which 2 were for lifetime achievement. The Arjuna Award is being given to 34 sportspersons, of which 17 are para-athletes, while 2 are for lifetime achievements.
This time Arjuna Awards were given to 32 athletes, out of which 17 are para-athletes.
Arjuna awardees include Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat, shooters Swapnil Kusale, Sarbjot Singh and men's hockey team members Germanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Sanjay and Abhishek.
