More About The Kia Carens Clavis EV

The Carens Clavis EV is a three-row electric MPV. On the design front, it resembles the internal combustion Carens Clavis to a great extent. The exterior design has several EV-specific cues. The front bumper comes with active aero flaps, a clean nose that houses the charging port, aero-optimized 17-inch alloy wheels. It has an unladen ground clearance of 200mm.
The Clavis EV comes packed with features like ventilated seats, twin 12.3-inch screens (infotainment screen and instrument cluster), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, wireless charging bay, powered driver’s seat, connected car features, and more. The second row gets an electric tumble function and there is a Boss mode as well. The Clavis EV also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging.

The Carens Clavis EV comes with two battery packs- 42kWh and 51.4kWh- same as the Creta Electric. The 42kWh unit has an ARAI range of 404 km per charge while the other one is claimed to deliver 490km per charge.
The 42kWh version comes with a 135hp electric motor, while the larger battery version has 171hp on offer. In both cases, the eclectic motor sits on the front axle and produces 255Nm of torque. The range-topping variant does the 0-100kph sprint in just 8.4 seconds.

In the Indian market, the Carens Clavis EV competes with models like BYD eMax 7, Mahindra XEV 9S, and even five-seater electric SUVs like the Creta Electric, Mahindra BE6, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and more. Upcoming mid-size electric SUVs like Maruti Suzuki eVitara and Toyota eBella, to some extent, will compete with the Clavis EV. If we consider just six and seven seater EVs, the rivals are still few in number.
