The South Korean automotive giant Kia India has officially unveiled the Syros EV as its most affordable electric SUV in the country. Alongside the unveiling, Kia has opened bookings for the new electric SUV with a token amount of Rs 25,000. The biggest highlight of the Syros EV is its segment-leading claimed range of up to 526 km. This makes it the first electric sub-compact SUV to cross the 500 km range mark.
Kia has announced that customers can now pre-book the Kia Syros EV by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. Bookings for the Syros EV can be made through Kia India’s official website or by visiting the nearest authorised dealerships. The company has not announced the dates for the deliveries. However, they are expected to commence in the coming months after the company announces the pricing.
The biggest talking point of the Syros EV is its battery and driving range. Kia is offering the electric SUV with two battery pack options. The entry-level variants get a 42 kWh battery pack with an ARAI-certified claimed range of 443 km. Meanwhile, buyers opting for the higher variants will get a larger 51.4 kWh battery pack offering an ARAI-certified range of 526 km. This makes the Syros EV the first vehicle in its segment to offer a claimed driving range of over 500 km.
Both battery packs use high-density Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery chemistry, and they are being offered with an IP67 rating. Additionally, they will get a liquid-cooled thermal management system, which has been designed to perform reliably in Indian weather conditions.
Kia has announced that it has also focused heavily on charging convenience. The Syros EV supports 100 kW DC fast charging. This will allow the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 39 minutes. It will be offered with a 10.8 kW onboard AC charger. It will also get a Battery Conditioning function, which will automatically prepare the battery for faster charging before reaching a charging station.
Powering the Syros EV is a front-mounted electric motor, which produces 171 PS. This makes it the most powerful vehicle in its segment, according to Kia. The larger battery variant can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 8.1 seconds.
The Syros EV also gets EV-specific technologies like paddle shifters for regenerative braking, Auto Regen mode, i-Pedal one-pedal driving, Shift-by-Wire gear selector, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Battery Heating System, Digital Key, and Virtual Engine Sound System.
One of the biggest highlights of the Syros EV is Kia’s ownership package. Every Syros EV will come with a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty. This will give buyers additional confidence regarding long-term battery durability.
Along with this, Kia is also offering an Assured Buyback programme that helps protect the vehicle’s resale value. Buyers can also opt for the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing programme. This will help in reducing the initial purchase cost by offering flexible battery financing options.
The Syros EV from the outside looks very similar to the Syros ICE. It boasts Kia’s latest global EV design language, and it retains the upright SUV stance of the standard Syros. At the front, it gets Kia’s Signature Digital Tiger Face and Ice Cube LED headlamps. It also gets Star Map LED daytime running lights with integrated turn indicators and standard LED fog lamps.
Other exterior highlights include flush Auto Streamline door handles, black glossy skid plates, roof rails, new aerodynamic 17-inch Crystal Cut dual-tone alloy wheels, and connected Star Map LED tail lamps. Lower variants will also be available with 16-inch wheels.
As for the interior and features, the Syros EV comes loaded with technology and premium comfort features. The biggest highlight is the new 30-inch Trinity Panoramic Display, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a dedicated 5-inch climate control display.
The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, OTA software updates, and Kia Connect 2.0 with over 95 connected car features. It will also get an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Other features include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front and rear seats, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, LED footwell lamps, rear sunshade curtains, and a dual-camera smart dashcam.
It will also come equipped with multiple USB Type-C charging ports, including a 100W fast charging port, and a 16-litre front storage compartment. Rear passengers also benefit from generous legroom, along with sliding, reclining, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
In terms of features, it will come with Level 2 ADAS with 16 driver assistance functions. These will include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert.
Parking assistance includes a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitor, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist-Reverse, and front, rear, as well as side parking sensors.
Apart from ADAS, the Syros EV also gets six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Start Assist, Brake Assist System, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, Rear Occupant Alert, all-wheel disc brakes, and an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold.
The Syros EV will be available in seven variants across its two battery options. The 42 kWh battery will be offered in HTK, HTK+, and HTX variants. Meanwhile, the larger 51.4 kWh battery pack will be available in HTK+ ER, HTX ER, HTX+ ER, and the range-topping X-Line ER variant.
Buyers will also get nine exterior colour options, including Glacier White Pearl, Frost Blue, Gravity Grey, Pewter Olive, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte, Ivory Silver Gloss, and Aurora Black Pearl. The X-Line variant will additionally be offered in the exclusive Xclusive Matte Graphite finish. Multiple interior themes will also be available depending on the chosen variant.
