Kia Syros vs Skoda Kylaq: Dimensions, price, features, specs compared
Kia India recently revealed the new Kia Syros compact SUV in the Indian market. The new Syros is the second sub-compact SUV after Sonet by Kia in India and will go on sale in 2025. The prices for the new model will be announced in January at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show. The company will start accepting bookings on January 3, 2025, and the deliveries will begin on February 2025. The Syros will go up against the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and other similarly priced sub-compact SUVs. In this article, let’s compare the new Kia Syros with the Skoda Kylaq in terms of variants, pricing, dimensions, features and specifications.
Comparing the variants and pricing first, the Syros is offered in six variants – HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus and HTX Plus (O). As mentioned before, the prices of the Syros will be announced later. The Kylaq is available in four variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. The entry-level Classic trim is offered only with a 6-speed MT transmission and is priced at 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Signature trim is offered in both manual gearboxes and is priced at Rs 9.59 lakh and Rs 10.59 lakh, respectively. The mid-spec Signature Plus trim is offered with both a 6-speed MT gearbox priced at Rs 11.40 lakh and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which is priced at Rs 12.40 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The top-of-the-line Prestige trim too is offered with both a 6-speed MT gearbox priced at Rs 13.35 lakh and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which is priced at Rs 14.4 lakh (both prices ex-showroom).
Comparing the dimensions next, the Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, 1783 mm in width, 1619 mm in height and has a 2,556 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 189 mm. The Syros measures 3,995 mm in length, 1805 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height and has a 2550 mm wheelbase and the ground clearance has not been announced yet. Both cars have the same length of 3,995 mm. The width of the Syros is 22 mm greater than the Kylaq, giving it a slightly broader stance. The height of the Syros is 61 mm greater than the Kylaq, making it taller overall. The wheelbase of the Kylaq is 6 mm longer than that of the Syros, which might provide slightly better cabin space. The ground clearance is only specified for the Kylaq (189 mm), while Syros’ value is not yet disclosed.
Let’s talk about features next, the Syros comes packed with features. It gets dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster, a 5-inch screen for the automatic climate control system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA updates for the infotainment system, in-car connectivity tech, all four ventilated seats, reclining and sliding second-row seats with centre armrest and a 60:40 split-folding function, powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS suite.
Talking about the features in the Kylaq, it’s offered with an 8.0-inch fully digital cluster, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, powered both front seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, a reverse parking camera with sensors and more.
The Syros offers more advanced displays with dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch climate control display, while the Kylaq comes with a smaller 10.0-inch infotainment screen and an 8.0-inch digital cluster. The Syros has a more premium dual-pane panoramic sunroof, whereas the Kylaq features a single-pane sunroof. The Syros has a higher-end Harman Kardon 8-speaker system, while the Kylaq comes with a 6-speaker Canton system. The Syros provides ventilated seats for all four occupants, reclining and sliding second-row seats, and a split-folding function. The Kylaq offers ventilated front seats only with semi-leatherette upholstery. Both cars feature six airbags, but the Syros has additional premium safety features like a 360-degree camera, a Level 2 ADAS suite, and front and rear parking sensors. The Kylaq includes ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX mounts, and a reverse parking camera with sensors. The Syros feels more luxurious overall, with features like a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and electronic parking brake, which are absent in the Kylaq.
Talking about engine and gearbox, the Kylaq is offered with a a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Syros gets two engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol which puts out 120hp of power and 172Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Another engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel with 115hp of power and 250Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
