Kia Teases New Compact SUV: Is This The Exter Rival?

Kia has teased a new compact SUV which will be there next big thing for the Indian market. We are assuming this will be based on the Exter but will offer design like the EV9 electric SUV and also offer a more premium vehicle for the size. The Kia Syros or Clavis as some people assume it is going to be called has already been spied testing quite a few times on Indian roads.

It will be launched early next year and it could be revealed at the Bharat mobility expo next year. It will sit under the Sonet and most likely be priced well under Rs 10 lakhs. The segment has been becoming more and more popular by the day and Kia’s sister company is already ruling with their Exter.

From the teasers we can see that it will have vertically stacked headlights up front and similar vertically stacked taillights at the back which will be on the D-pillar. It will have the tall boy design, large glass area and boxy elements to make it more imposing. We can also see the raised roof rails and chunky view mirrors.

Kia has not revealed any more details so we cannot tell how the interior of the vehicle looks but we assume it will be the standard Hyundai-Kia affair on the inside. Since it is a Kia, we can expect it to be loaded with all the features, like a sunroof, alloy wheels, LED headlights, and paddle shifters.

As far as engine options go, we assume that it will feature the same 1.2L NA petrol engine that we have seen in the Hyundai Exter and Kia might also offer the 1.0L turbo petrol albeit in a lower state of tune than the Sonet. Transmission options will most likely include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

We expect the new Kia SUV to be launched at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and rival the likes of the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
