King Charles at London Fashion Week – can royal glam hide Andrew’s arrest?

King Charles III formally opened London Fashion Week on Thursday, attending the Designer Showcase and a high-profile runway presentation by rising British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker.

The appearance came on the same day his younger brother, Prince Andrew, was arrested and later released under investigation by Thames Valley Police over allegations linked to misconduct in public office.

Despite the unfolding controversy, the King maintained his public schedule. He was welcomed by Laura Weir, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, and toured the London Fashion Week Designer Showcase before taking a front-row seat at Coker’s autumn–winter 2026–27 show.

The event was held at 180 Strand, home to the BFC Newgen Show Space. Seated alongside prominent figures from the fashion industry, the monarch watched a vibrant collection inspired by west London’s Mozart Estate, where Coker grew up. The show celebrated community, cultural diversity and the designer’s Nigerian heritage. Bold colours dominated the runway, including vivid reds, electric tartans and lime greens.

Coker also unveiled pieces from a collaboration with Topshop, blending high-street influence with her signature storytelling aesthetic.

While the fashion event showcased creativity and optimism, headlines throughout the day were dominated by developments surrounding Prince Andrew. Police searches were conducted at Royal Lodge and Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate following his arrest.

The investigation relates to allegations connected to Andrew’s former role as a UK trade envoy. Claims have resurfaced that he may have shared sensitive information with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex offences in the United States. Andrew has previously denied wrongdoing and has consistently rejected allegations of impropriety.

Authorities have confirmed that he was released under investigation, meaning inquiries are ongoing and no charges have been filed.

Additional scrutiny has emerged from multiple police forces reviewing historical claims. Essex Police is assessing information regarding private flights linked to Epstein’s network. Public calls have been made for alleged victims to come forward.

The unfolding situation has intensified pressure on the monarchy. However, King Charles made no public reference to the matter during his appearance at London Fashion Week. Palace sources indicated that neither he nor the Prince of Wales had advance notice of the arrest.
