1. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is among the most popular farmer schemes in the country. Under this, financial assistance of ₹ 6,000 is given annually to eligible farmers. This amount is sent directly to the bank account in three equal installments of two thousand rupees each. Till now 21 installments of the scheme have been released and farmers are waiting for the 22nd installment.

2. Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana

The government has taken a new and important initiative for the farmers, whose name is Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana. Its objective is to focus on those areas where farming has not yet become profitable. Under this scheme, work will be done on reducing the cost of farming, problems of irrigation, storage and resources. A long term strategy has been made to increase the income of farmers. This scheme will be applicable for 6 years starting from 2025-26. In the first phase, 100 backward districts have been selected. About ₹24,000 crore will be spent every year and about 1.7 crore farmers are expected to benefit.

3. Kisan Credit Card

Timely availability of money is a big challenge in farming. To solve this problem, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is being run. Under this, loans are available at low interest rates, which can be used in farming, animal husbandry and horticulture. Government subsidy is also available on interest. Now KCC has been linked to PM Kisan Yojana, making the application process easier. Farmers can apply from bank or nearest CSC centre.

4. Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme

Farmers have to bear the brunt of the weather the most. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is being run to protect against loss in case of crop failure. Under this scheme, crops are insured at very low premium. Farmers get compensation in case of loss due to natural disaster, pests or weather, which is sent directly to their account. This scheme provides financial security to the farmers.

5. PM Agricultural Irrigation Scheme

Farming is not possible without water. The goal of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is to provide water to every farm. Under this, subsidy is given on modern technologies like drip and sprinkler, so that more crops can be grown in less water and the cost of irrigation is reduced. The government provides subsidy up to 50 percent in many cases, which makes it easier to adopt modern irrigation systems.

National Farmers Day started in the year 2001. The Central Government of that time decided to celebrate 23 December, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, as Farmers Day. At that time there was NDA government and Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.
