Kishan and Panghal showed their strength, story of comeback of Indian players in 2025

Today is the last day of the year 2025. This passing year has witnessed the successful comeback of many Indian players. In cricket, from Ishan Kishan to Shefali Verma won the hearts of people with their amazing comebacks, while in wrestling, Ultimate Panghal regained his old rhythm and left behind the controversies of Paris Olympics. Let us know the complete story of the comeback of these players.

Ishaan Kishan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had taken major action against Ishan Kishan for leaving the South Africa tour midway in December 2023. The board not only removed him from Team India but also removed him from the central contract. Kishan was also accused of not giving importance to domestic cricket. Later his name was not even considered for selection in the Indian team.

This sequence continued for 2 years, which has now ended. Kishan made Jharkhand the champion with his explosive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the very next day he was selected for the T20 series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.

The Paris Olympics 2024 was no less than a nightmare for wrestler Panghal. Panghal, a strong contender for the medal, was eliminated in the first round itself. After this he was accused of secretly taking his sister to the Olympic Village. Panghal was devastated by all this and even thought of retiring from wrestling. His family and coaches pulled him through the tough times.

Panghal overcame mental agony and injury to win a bronze medal in the Asian Championships and a gold medal in the UWW Ranking Series. Not only this, he won bronze for the second time in the World Championship.

Shefali Verma

Destructive opener Shafali Verma lost her place in the Indian ODI team last year. Due to lack of consistency, Pratika Raval was tried in his place. Pratika supported Smriti Mandhana well. Team India got a solid start in almost every match, after which Shefali’s comeback became difficult.

Despite excellent batting in WPL and domestic cricket, Shefali was not selected for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. However, Pratika’s injury at the end of the tournament opened the door for Shefali. Shafali returned to the ODI team after a year and played the direct World Cup semi-finals and final. She could not perform in the semi-finals but in the final she scored 87 runs and took 2 wickets and made India the world champion.

Murli Srishankar

Long jumper Shrishankar Murali returned from injury and performed brilliantly. He was out of the Paris Olympics due to injury. He made a comeback this year after rigorous rehabilitation. Sreeshankar won gold in the Indian Athletics Meet held in Pune on July 12. After this he also won in Portugal and Kazakhstan. Then he became champion at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Level Meet in Bhubaneswar.

August 24 was the last day to qualify for the World Championships. Sreeshankar jumped 8.06m at the National Inter-State Championships but missed automatic qualification by 21m. However, on the basis of world ranking, he got the ticket for the World Championship. In a way, the work which was to be done in one year, was completed by Shri Shankar in about 40 days.

Mirabai Chanu

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist weightlifter Mirabai Janu was also expected to win a medal in the Paris Olympics but she could only achieve fourth place. She won the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg category at the Commonwealth Championships in Ahmedabad this year. He also lost weight to play in the new weight category and qualify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

In October, Mirbai won her third World Championships medal despite injuring her right thumb. He had to lift a total weight of 199 kg. After the next Asian Games, Mirabai can again return to 53 kg weight category. This is because this is the minimum weight category for female weightlifters in the 2028 Olympics.
