‘Kisko Role Diya?’: Annu Kapoor unhappy, questions Sai Pallavi’s casting as Sita in Ramayana ahead of trailer release

All eyes are on the grand Ramayana trailer, which is set to premiere digitally on July 24, 2026. Ahead of the trailer launch, reports have claimed that Ranbir Kapoor has contracted conjunctivitis from his daughter, Raha. Despite this, the actor is expected to attend the grand premiere.

In the film, Ranbir Kapoor essays the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi portrays Mata Sita, Sunny Deol plays Lord Hanuman, and Yash stars as Ravana.

Ahead of the trailer release, veteran actor Annu Kapoor shared his views on the highly anticipated project and spoke about the importance of casting for a character as revered as Mata Sita.

Speaking about the film, Annu said that while the makers could surpass Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series Ramayan in terms of technology and visual presentation, he questioned the choice of actor for the role of Sita.

He told Times Now, “What to make? Those who make it, they will make Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan very showboating technologically. But after that you think about whom you have given the role of Sita? It is Sita Maa.” (“Whatever they make, they may surpass Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana in terms of technology and visual spectacle. But after that, ask yourself who has been cast to play Sita. Sita is revered as a mother.”)

When asked whether he disagreed with the film’s casting choices, Kapoor also reacted to director Nitesh Tiwari, saying he was not familiar with him. “I don’t even know why you keep calling me. Who are you? What do you do? I don’t even know,” he said.

According to the CBFC website, two entries have been certified: ‘Trailer – Ramayana 3D’ and ‘Theatrical Trailer – Ramayana 3D’. The first has a runtime of 4 minutes and 15 seconds, while the second runs for 4 minutes. Both have received a ‘U’ certificate.

Ramayana also features music by Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
