The first-ever Kho-Kho World Cup began with a grand opening ceremony in New Delhi on Monday and will run till January 19. In the first match of the tournament, India faced Nepal in the men's match. The women's match will be between England and Australia on Tuesday. Brazil men's team will play India on Tuesday.
Sudhanshu Mittal told reporters, “The dream has come true… Everyone has worked very hard to promote India's traditional game internationally and this was a good start to the dream. The opening ceremony of the Kho-Kho World Cup was inaugurated colorfully in the stadium.
The show started with a sand art projection dedicated to Mother Earth, followed by a formal parade. The Indian Kho-Kho Federation unveiled the World Cup trophies for both the men's and women's tournaments and loud cheers echoed throughout the stadium as the cube was lifted. After a performance celebrating India and highlighting the country's vibrant and colorful culture, the participating nations took part in a parade into the stadium, with the athletes waving to the crowd.
