KKR announce Mustafizur Rahman’s replacement, player leaves PSL for IPL

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was removed from the IPL 2026 due to political tensions between the two countries.

Muzarabani, who had a contract with Islamabad United for the Pakistan Super League 2026, opted out of the tournament to join the IPL. He took 13 wickets for Zimbabwe in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

“KKR have signed Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani to join the squad for the upcoming TATA Indian Premier League 2026 season. The 6 ft 8″ right-arm quick has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s leading pace bowlers in the shortest format, known for his steep bounce and ability to strike in key phases of the innings,” KKR said in a statement.

He has picked up 106 wickets in 89 T20Is at an average of 21.34. Muzarabani is renowned for his pace and consistency, and his addition will further strengthen KKR’s pacer attack in the 19th season of the league.

He is expected to join KKR on March 17 and is only the second player to leave the PSL in favour of the IPL.

South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch was a part of Peshawar Zalmi, but he joined the Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement for R Lizaad Williams in 2025.

The Pakistan Cricket Board took action against him, and the player was banned from the PSL. The board highlighted the importance of honouring the contract after agreeing to play for the PSL franchises.
