KKR suffer huge playoff blow as star batter ruled out of IPL 2026 ahead of DC game
Kolkata Knight Riders’ late playoff push has been hit by a brutal setback at the worst possible time. Just when Ajinkya Rahane’s side had dragged itself back into contention with a fighting win over Mumbai Indians, KKR have lost their most consistent batter of the season, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, for the remainder of IPL 2026.
The 21-year-old has been ruled out after suffering a concussion and a fracture to a finger on his left hand during the match against MI on May 20. For a team already living on thin margins in the playoff race, this is not just an injury update. It is a proper tactical shock.
Anrish Raghuvanshi ruled out after collision during KKR vs MI
KKR confirmed the development in an official update, stating: ‘Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been ruled out of 2026 TATA Indian Premier League after sustaining a concussion and a fracture to a finger on his left hand while attempting a catch during Kolkata Knight Riders’s match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, 20 May. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
The injury happened during the MI clash when Tilak Varma skied a chance near the bowler. Varun Chakravarthy and Raghuvanshi both went for the catch, leading to a heavy collision. Varun initially completed the catch, but the impact meant the ball eventually spilled out. Raghuvanshi immediately left the field, and Tejasvi Dahiya took over wicketkeeping duties.
KKR still managed to win that match and keep their playoff hopes alive, but the cost has turned out to be massive.

KKR lose their best batsman of the season
Raghuvanshi’s absence is a major blow because he has been KKR’s standout batting performer in IPL 2026. In 13 matches, he scored 422 runs, including five half-centuries, and repeatedly gave the side stability in a season where combinations kept shifting.
For a team that has not had a smooth campaign, Raghuvanshi became the reliable engine in the middle order. His ability to rebuild after early wickets and still keep the scoring rate moving made him one of KKR’s most valuable players.
Now, with only one league match left, KKR have to replace not just his runs, but also his role. That is the hardest part. Runs can sometimes be covered by one big innings. Balance is more difficult.
IPL 2026 Playoff equation gets even trickier for KKR
KKR are still alive, but only just. They have 13 points from 13 matches, with six wins and six defeats. Their final league game against Delhi Capitals is now a must-win. A victory would take them to 15 points, but even that would not guarantee qualification.
KKR will also need Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals to lose their respective remaining matches. That makes their route dependent on both performance and luck. In short, Rahane’s side must beat DC first, then sit with the calculator.
Raghuvanshi’s injury makes that task far more difficult. KKR’s playoff hopes were already hanging by a thread; now they have to chase survival without the batter who has held their season together.
Who can replace Angkrish Raghuvanshi?
KKR have a few options, but none are like-for-like. Ramandeep Singh could come in if the team wants a stronger finishing option and extra all-round value. He gives them power at the back end and can add flexibility in the field.
Rahul Tripathi is another possibility. His experience could be useful in a pressure game against Delhi Capitals, especially if KKR want someone who can bat in the top or middle order and handle a must-win situation.
Tejasvi Dahiya may also remain relevant because he took over keeping duties after Raghuvanshi went off against MI. KKR’s final combination will depend on whether they want batting stability, finishing power, or wicketkeeping balance.
Whatever route they choose, the timing could hardly be worse. KKR fought their way back into the playoff conversation, but losing Raghuvanshi before the final league match has turned their survival mission into something even more fragile.
