KKR vs MI: The bowlers got a little help and the batsmen collapsed in Eden Gardens.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) faced each other in the 65th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In this match played on Wednesday (May 20) at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, after being invited to bat first, the MI team could score only 147 runs after losing 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. This was the fourth lowest score by a team batting first in the current season.

Taking advantage of the help from the pitch, KKR took 4 wickets of MI in the powerplay. Cameron Green sent Ryan Rickleton (6) and Naman Dheer (0) to the pavilion in the third over, then Saurabh Dubey showed the way to the pavilion to Rohit Sharma (15) and Suryakumar Yadav (15) in consecutive overs. The MI team could never recover from these setbacks and could not reach the challenging score.

MI’s struggle continued even after rain

Only 8 overs were played in MI’s innings when the match had to be stopped midway due to rain. When the game resumed after about an hour, it was expected that captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma would bring MI’s innings back on track but despite spending time at the crease, they could not hit big shots. Tilak Verma could score only 20 runs after playing 32 balls. He hit his first and only boundary on the 25th ball. He became the batsman with the most number of balls to hit the first boundary in IPL 2026. Earlier, this unwanted record was in the name of Ravindra Jadeja, who hit his first boundary on his 24th ball against Lucknow Super Giants.

Tilak was out in the 14th over. After his departure, Hardik Pandya also could not last long and Sunil Narayan ended his struggle. Hardik scored 26 runs in 27 balls. MI team did not seem to reach even 130 but Corbin Bosch hit unbeaten 32 runs in 18 balls and took them closer to 150. Now it remains to be seen whether these many runs are enough on the board or not.

Cameron Green, Saurabh Dubey and Karthik Tyagi took 2-2 wickets for KKR. Sunil Narayan bowled economically and took 1 wicket for 13 runs in 4 overs.
