Abhishek Sharma pleaded guilty under Article 2.3, which covers the use of audible obscenity (language generally considered offensive, obscene or profane, which is audible to the audience or can be captured by a stump mic, including expressions of anger). The match referee’s decision for Level 1 violations is final and binding. Abhishek scored a quick 48 runs in 21 balls in this match (4 fours and 4 sixes), but the fine imposed on him is related to his behavior.
According to reports, after being caught out, Abhishek expressed his displeasure at the umpire’s decision or used abusive language. In this case, this is his first demerit point, so it will not immediately impact his availability in future matches. Demerit points accumulate over a period of 36 months and if they reach a certain threshold (e.g., 4 points = 1 suspension point), the player may be suspended. However, his team Sunrisers won the match by a huge margin of 65 runs.
