KL Rahul can't take a break

Spots: K.L. Rahul is the star batsman of Team India. He performed very well in the last Test series against Australia. Although the Indian team lost the series 1-3, Team India has already started preparations for the Champions Trophy. The Indian team will play T20 and ODI series against England. It will be organized some time before the Champions Cup. In this backdrop, BCCI rejected KL Rahul's special request.

K.L. Rahul, who was on Australia tour with Team India, had sought a break from BCCI but the BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar rejected KL's request. Rahul asked about taking a break from the entire white-ball home series to lodge a protest against England. The T20 series starts from 22 January. The ODI series starts from 6 February. Rahul, who is not part of the T20 squad yet, has also reportedly expressed his desire to take a break from ODIs after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Although the selection committee initially agreed to the request, it later changed its stance and asked Rahul to take part in the ODI series against England starting on February 6.

The selection committee took this decision to give Rahul some match practice before the Champions Trophy. The three-match ODI series will be the last chance for India to finalize its team composition. Champions Trophy starts from 19th February. According to reports, this decision of BCCI has been taken to give match practice to Rahul and also to retain him as the main wicketkeeper in ODIs before Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. Rahul's performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the year before that was good, so his chances of playing are good. Since India have not played an ODI since August 7, the selectors wanted Rahul to be available for the England series so that he can prepare for the upcoming tournament.
