KL Rahul creates unique IPL history

New Delhi: KL Rahul created Indian Premier League history after becoming the first batter to score 1,000 runs for three different franchises in the tournament.

The historic feat was achieved during Delhi Capitals’ match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, where Rahul scored 23 runs off 14 balls.

With the knock, Rahul crossed the 1,000-run mark for Delhi Capitals and added another major milestone to his IPL career.

Rahul scripts unique IPL record

KL Rahul is now the only player in IPL history to register more than 1,000 runs for three separate franchises.

Before achieving the feat with Delhi Capitals, Rahul had already crossed the milestone for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

Rahul scored 2,548 runs during his stint with Punjab Kings between 2018 and 2021 and later accumulated 1,410 runs for Lucknow Super Giants across three seasons.

He has now gone past 1,000 runs for Delhi Capitals after joining the franchise ahead of IPL 2025.

The wicketkeeper-batter currently has 1,007 runs for DC and remains one of the team’s key performers.

Rahul’s IPL journey across franchises

KL Rahul began his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.

He managed only 20 runs in his debut season before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the next two editions of the tournament.

Rahul scored 308 runs during his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad before returning to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

He enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in IPL 2016, scoring 397 runs for RCB.

However, Rahul missed the entire IPL 2017 season because of injury.

Punjab Kings phase transformed career

Rahul’s IPL career took a major turn after Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 11 crore in the IPL 2018 mega auction.

He quickly established himself as one of the league’s most consistent batters and later captained the franchise in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021.

During IPL 2020, Rahul won the Orange Cap after scoring 670 runs in the season.

Ahead of IPL 2022, Lucknow Super Giants signed Rahul for Rs 17 crore and appointed him captain of the newly formed franchise.

He led the team for three seasons before Delhi Capitals secured him for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Delhi Capitals struggling in IPL 2026

Despite Rahul’s milestone, Delhi Capitals have struggled in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season.

The team has managed only four wins in 11 matches and currently sits eighth in the points table.

Delhi Capitals have eight points with a net run rate of -1.154.

The franchise now faces a difficult road to the playoffs and must win its remaining matches while depending on favourable results from other teams.

Rahul, however, continues to remain one of the few positives for Delhi Capitals this season with his consistent performances at the top order.
