KL Rahul raring to go! BCCI provides update on batter’s fitness after injury scare

New Delhi: Team India batter KL Rahul has recovered fully from his elbow injury and has been declared fully fit ahead of the 1st Test against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) provided a key update on Rahul’s fitness in a video shared on social media.

Rahul was hit on his right elbow while batting during India’s match simulation in Perth ahead of the series opener. The right-hander was attended by the physios and had to leave the field for scans. Team India’s physio Yogesh Parmar revealed Rahul’s scan reports were fine and it was about ensuring that the batter was not in too much pain.

“I took him for X-ray and scans and based on the reports I was confident that he should be fine. It was a matter of controlling his pain and giving him some confidence. From a medical point of view, he is absolutely fine,” said Yogesh Parmar, India’s physiotherapist.

Rahul expressed confidence regarding his preparations for the series and said he was raring to go ahead of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth. The expectations are huge from the prolific batter despite his struggles of late. Rahul might be asked to open the batting for India if skipper Rohit Sharma misses the 1st Test after the birth of his son on Friday.

Fit KL Rahul a big positive for Team India

Rahul batted in the nets during India’s practice session in Perth on Sunday, November 17 to shrug off any concerns regarding his elbow injury. The right-hander also participated in all team drills apart from spending time with the bat in the nets. His return to fitness is a huge positive for India, who are set to miss the services of Shubman Gill for the 1st Test.

Gill fractured his finger while fielding during the match simulation and is set to sit out of the series opener. With no Gill and doubts over Rohit’s participation in the first Test, Rahul will have to shoulder the run-scoring responsibilities for India in the top order. It remains to be seen if he will open with Yashasvi Jaiswal or will be asked to bat at no.3 in the Perth Test.
