KP Unnikrishnan passed away : Today has been a very sad day for Kerala politics. A popular leader who played an important role in national politics, K.P. Unnikrishnan has passed away. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister K.P. Unnikrishnan died in a private hospital in Kozhikode. He started his political career with Samajwadi Party. Later, in 1962, he became a member of the Congress Committee, beginning his long and influential journey in national politics.

After being elected to the Lok Sabha from Vadakara in 1971, he represented the constituency in 1977, 1980, 1984, 1989 and 1991. Because of his strong support, his personal influence transcended party boundaries. His demise leaves not only Kerala but national politics as a whole an experienced and ideologically sound leader.
