KTM Now Offers 4-Year Standard Warranty On All Road Bikes

KTM has announced a major upgrade to its standard warranty program, doubling the coverage period for its street legal motorcycles. Starting with the 2025 manufacturing year, all road going models across the brand’s global portfolio will come with a four-year standard warranty. This move replaces the previous two-year coverage and aims to significantly boost ownership confidence across the entire product range.

Coverage Scope And Exclusions

The new four-year policy is comprehensive in its scope, applying to almost every street legal machine in the line-up. This stretches from the entry level 125cc commuter sports singles all the way up to the flagship 1350cc twin cylinder models. Crucially, this global directive includes the sub 400cc single cylinder motorcycles manufactured by Bajaj Auto at the Chakan facility.

However, the company has drawn a hard line regarding its competition and off-road models. The manufacturer has explicitly excluded its track only machines and dedicated dirt bikes from this extended coverage, keeping the focus strictly on street legal models.

A significant functional benefit of this new program is that the warranty is tied directly to the motorcycle rather than the original purchaser. If the bike is sold within the four-year window, the remaining warranty coverage automatically transfers to the second owner. This naturally improves the resale value of the motorcycles. The only strict condition for maintaining this coverage is that the motorcycle must adhere to the manufacturer’s suggested service schedule and be maintained exclusively at authorized dealer workshops.

Building Confidence After Engine Concerns

The decision to double the standard warranty period is not just a marketing exercise. It comes after the brand faced some highly publicized mechanical issues in recent years. Specifically, the 790 and 890 twin cylinder platforms suffered from premature camshaft wear, leading to severe engine reliability concerns among a vocal group of owners.

While those specific mechanical flaws have reportedly been ironed out in newer production batches, the reputational impact required a strong, tangible response. By offering a four-year guarantee straight from the factory, the manufacturer is making a calculated move to rebuild consumer trust. It signals that the factory stands behind the durability of its newer engines and is willing to absorb the financial risk of potential mechanical failures over a much longer ownership period.

Domestic Market Reality

While the announcement covers motorcycles manufactured domestically for global export, the execution reality for the local market is quite different. The newly announced four-year standard warranty is currently restricted to overseas markets. For the domestic market, the existing warranty policies remain entirely unchanged.

This creates a rather unusual scenario at the manufacturing level. A locally manufactured 390 Duke that is exported to European showrooms will carry a standard four-year factory warranty out of the box. However, the exact same motorcycle, built on the same assembly line but sold to a domestic buyer, will not receive this specific global upgrade.

Domestic buyers will continue to rely on the existing local warranty structures to protect their purchases. While the domestic arm of the brand has occasionally run highly aggressive promotional warranties, such as the recent ten-year extended coverage offered for the 390 Duke, these are structured as limited time local promotions rather than a permanent change to the standard factory warranty. For now, the global four-year standard coverage remains an exclusive benefit for export markets.
