IND vs IRE: ‘Coach, don’t worry…I will hit 13 sixes’, how Vaibhav Suryavanshi surprised coach Sangakkara

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals Cricket Director and Head Coach Kumar Sangakkara has narrated an anecdote about Vaibhav, which has revealed a new picture of his confidence.

Vaibhav would have batted without fear: Sangakkara
Sangakkara told that before the match against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals had got a big target of 221 runs. Before the match started, Vaibhav came to him and winked and said, ‘Coach, don’t worry… the match is over.’ After this he reached the dressing room and told teammates Donovan Ferreira and Luan-Dre Pretorius, ‘Listen, I will hit 13 sixes today. After that you guys do the rest of the work.

Vaibhav had talked about hitting 13 sixes
Sangakkara told that initially both the players thought that Vaibhav was joking. But when he hit five sixes, both of them really started counting. Ultimately Vaibhav hit 10 sixes in that innings. According to Sangakkara, the biggest quality of Vaibhav is that he plays without any fear on the field.

Rajasthan Royals bought Vaibhav in the 2024 mega auction for Rs 1.10 crore. In the last IPL, he made the record of being the youngest to score an IPL century by scoring 101 runs against Gujarat Titans.

This year also his bat spoke loudly. He scored 776 runs in 16 innings. His strike rate was 237.30, which included one century and five half-centuries. On the basis of his excellent performance, he got a place in the Indian T20 team for the tour of Ireland and England. He is also a part of the Asian Games team.

Sangakkara also mentioned his first meeting with Vaibhav. He told that during practice in Guwahati, Joffra Archer, Sandeep Sharma and other fast bowlers were bowling with the new ball on a difficult net. Most of the players were avoiding batting there, but 14 year old Vaibhav himself came forward and insisted on batting.

According to Sangakkara, every sound coming out of Vaibhav’s bat sounded like a gunshot. He made fearless shots on the balls of experienced bowlers like Archer and Sandeep Sharma. Even Joffra Archer laughed after watching his batting. This fearless style has made Vaibhav Suryavanshi the most exciting young star of Indian cricket today.
