Kushinagar: Railway’s formula: Extend date, postpone payment!
Kushinagar. The Chhitauni-Tamkuhi Road Rail Project, which has been hanging in the balance for years, now seems to be coming on the ground, but the administrative apathy on the front of compensation payment has dashed the hopes of the farmers. Despite the Revenue Department having received the entire land acquisition amount, the affected farmers have not yet received their rights, due to which the anger is increasing.
Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) had issued a notice on 29 December 2025, directing 28 farmers of Gram Panchayat Jatha and 18 farmers of Ekvanhi alias Bhagwatpur to submit the documents by 15 February 2026 in the first phase. In the second phase, notices were served to 42 farmers of Gram Panchayat Jarar. It may be noted that farmers of Gram Panchayat Katai Bharpurwa of Khadda tehsil and six villages of Padrauna tehsil were also included in the process of compensation payment. The arrangement for payment was decided after filling and submitting Form 41/45 and 1359.
But the reality is that even after the deadline passed, neither the necessary documents reached the hands of the farmers nor any clear date for payment was announced. Farmers are making daily rounds of ADM (Judicial), Tehsil, Lekhpal and other revenue offices. Every time there is assurance of a new date, but the result is zero.
The pain of the suffering farmers is clearly visible, “The government has taken the land, but there is no telling when the payment will be received”. The babus and accountants sitting in the offices seem to be unconcerned with the helplessness of the farmers.
It is being told by the babus that the date has been extended, and they say that there is no need to worry, but it is natural to raise questions that when the notice was given earlier, the date was told, when it was extended, the date is not being told. Why is the date being extended and for whose lack is it a big question?
It is alleged that the files are being deliberately hung, due to which the farmers are facing all three types of blows – mental, economic and social.
Villagers say that this delay is no longer just carelessness but raises questions on the system. On one hand the government is claiming the development project, while on the other hand the farmers who have to pay the price of the same development are forced to run from pillar to post for their rights.
Now the affected farmers have given a clear warning that if the process is not completed by announcing a clear date for early payment, they will be forced to agitate. The biggest question is this – when the land has been acquired and the funds have been released, when will the farmers get compensation?
