The Kuwait government has taken a major step to further strengthen the country’s security. This decision was taken under Resolution No. 718 of 2026, which was issued on 27 June 2026. This law (Law No. 47 of 2026) actually came into effect on March 16, 2026. The purpose of this law is to create a strong legal framework to prevent terrorism, which is designed according to international standards and rules of organizations like FATF.

The provisions of punishment under this new law have been kept very strict. People found involved in terrorist activities can be given life imprisonment or death sentence. The reach of the law is so wide that even if a person, living outside Kuwait, targets the country’s interests, citizens, embassies, planes or ships, he will also be prosecuted under this law. Also, there will be no statute of limitations for these crimes, meaning action can be taken against the culprit at any time.

Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef has said in strong words that Kuwait’s security and stability is a red line, which will not be compromised. He made it clear that the security agencies will not tolerate any attempt to disturb public peace. The government is fully committed to eliminating extremist ideology and stopping funding for terrorism. He has also emphasized on cooperation with international organizations like Interpol.

Kuwait has already taken major action on the security front. In April 2026, 24 people were arrested in an operation against terrorist funding networks, foiling a major conspiracy threatening national security. Additionally, Kuwait is working with GCC countries to enhance security cooperation to address regional threats.
