Lakadbaggha 2 teaser poster unveiled, Diwali 2026 release set
Mumbai: The makers of Lakadbaggha 2: The Monkey Business have unveiled the teaser poster of the much-anticipated sequel, marking the next chapter in the action franchise created by actor-director Anshuman Jha.
The announcement was made by the production banner First Ray Films on the occasion of Jha’s birthday, turning the reveal into both a professional milestone and a personal celebration for the filmmaker.
Along with the teaser poster, the makers confirmed that the film will release in cinemas worldwide during the Diwali 2026, positioning the sequel as a major action release for the festive season.
Sequel expands the Lakadbaggha universe
Lakadbaggha 2: The Monkey Business continues the story of Arjun Bakshi, the animal-loving vigilante introduced in the first film.
The character, played by Anshuman Jha, is known for protecting animals from cruelty and illegal trade. In the sequel, the story will move beyond India and explore international wildlife trafficking networks.
While the original film was largely set in Kolkata, the sequel shifts its setting to the forests of West Java in Indonesia, highlighting the global nature of wildlife crime.
The narrative will once again blend action with an environmental message, focusing on the protection of endangered species.
Film focuses on endangered primate
A central element of the new film is the endangered Celebes crested macaque, also known as the North Sulawesi “Yaki Monkey”.
The species is found primarily in Indonesia and has faced severe population decline due to habitat loss and illegal hunting.
By placing the rare primate at the centre of the storyline, the filmmakers aim to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and the threats faced by endangered animals.
The franchise has positioned itself as an action series that combines high-energy storytelling with advocacy for animal welfare.
International action cast joins the film
The sequel will feature a diverse international cast alongside Anshuman Jha.
Actors Sarah Jane Dias, Adil Hussain and Vikram Kochhar will appear in important roles.
The film also features international martial arts star Sunny Pang, who previously worked alongside Tom Hardy in the film Havoc.
Additionally, Thai action star Dan Chupong, known for his work in the martial arts film Ong-Bak, is part of the project.
The inclusion of martial arts performers from different countries reflects the franchise’s ambition to create an action film with international appeal.
Film festival run planned before release
The makers have also announced that the film will have a festival run between June and November before its global theatrical release.
According to the production team, this strategy is intended to introduce the film to international audiences and critics before its commercial release.
Festival screenings can often help films build early buzz and reach audiences interested in global cinema.
Inspiration behind the story
Speaking about the project, Anshuman Jha described the film as deeply personal to him.
He said that the character and story were inspired by the ideals associated with Lord Hanuman.
“This film is deeply personal to me. Lord Hanuman has inspired me since I was a kid. He represents strength, loyalty, courage and service to me,” Jha said.
He added that the film is not just a continuation of the first movie but also a tribute to the animals that share the planet with humans.
According to Jha, the project reflects his belief that humanity’s relationship with nature must be based on respect and responsibility.
Building a unique action franchise
The original Lakadbaggha stood out for its unusual premise of an action hero motivated by compassion for animals rather than revenge.
The sequel aims to expand that concept on a larger scale by exploring global wildlife trafficking and the challenges of conservation across borders.
With a mix of martial arts action, international locations and a conservation theme, the filmmakers hope to position the franchise as a distinctive addition to Indian action cinema.
As the teaser poster sparks early interest, the film is expected to generate further attention in the months leading up to its festival circuit and eventual release during the Diwali 2026 season.
