A Lamborghini Revuelto luxury car, priced at a staggering ₹8.89 crore (ex-showroom), caught fire late Wednesday evening (December 25) on Mumbai’s Coastal Road. The incident occurred around 10:20 PM, with smoke seen billowing from the high-end vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes with the assistance of a fire engine, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Industrialist Gautam SinghaniaChairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, shared a video of the fiery incident on social media, reigniting concerns about the safety and reliability of Lamborghini’s luxury vehicles. Known for his vast car collection and sharp critique of high-end automobiles, Singhania did not hold back.
In a post on platform X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “Incidents like this raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety standards of Lamborghini. For the price and reputation, one expects uncompromising quality—not potential hazards.”
Recurring Concerns with Lamborghini
This isn’t the first time Singhania has voiced concerns about Lamborghini’s safety standards. In October, he reported an electrical failure in a newly acquired Lamborghini Revuelto just 15 days after delivery. The malfunction left him stranded on Mumbai’s Trans-Harbour Link Road. Singhania also criticized Lamborghini’s lack of response, stating that neither Lamborghini India nor its Asia division reached out to address the issue.
The latest fire incident adds to a growing list of grievances against the Italian automaker, raising questions about the safety of their vehicles, especially in Indian conditions.
Singhania’s History of Criticism
Gautam Singhania has previously taken aim at other luxury car brands over safety concerns.
- Maserati: In 2022, he warned prospective buyers about the Maserati MC20, calling it a “dangerous car” and cautioning that someone might get hurt driving it.
- Porsche: In 2015, he criticized Porsche after a 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo owned by industrialist Yohan Poonawalla caught fire in Mumbai.
Singhania’s outspoken stance on luxury car safety stems from his vast experience with high-performance vehicles.
