Land Records: In 19 states, you will be able to download land documents sitting at home, it will be easier to buy, sell and get loan.

New Delhi, January 2. Now citizens of 19 states of the country will be able to download their land documents (land records) in digital form sitting at home. These papers will be legally valid. Apart from this, banks in 406 districts can now check mortgage information online, which will help people in getting loans quickly. According to the government, the Land Resources Department has almost completed the work of digitalizing land records.

Due to this, land related works are now being done online instead of standing in queues. According to the Ministry of Rural Development, records related to land rights have been registered on computers in more than 97 percent of the villages of the country. About 97 percent of the land maps have also been made digital. In about 85 percent of the villages, written land records have been linked to the maps.

To improve the land management in cities, ‘NAKSHA’ i.e. ‘National Geospatial Knowledge-based Urban Housing Land Survey’ scheme has been started. Under this scheme, work is being done in 157 urban local bodies (ULBs) of the country. Of these, aerial survey has been completed in 116 ULBs, covering an area of ​​5,915 square kilometers with high-resolution images.

The government said that ground level investigation has started in 72 cities and in 21 cities this work has been completely completed. The Central Government has approved an assistance of Rs 1,050 crore to 24 states and union territories under the scheme 2025-26, so that they can complete the work of digital records of land.

The government has also introduced a unique identification number for land, called ULPIN. This is a 14 digit number and it is being called the Aadhaar card of the land. By November 2025, this number has been given to more than 36 crore land parcels in 29 states and union territories of the country.

According to the ministry, the government has launched the National Document Registration System (NGDRS), which has made buying and selling of land easier. This system has been implemented in 17 states including Punjab, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh. About 88 per cent of Sub Registrar Offices (SROs) are now linked with revenue offices, thereby automatically updating land records immediately after registration. The government says that with all these steps land related work has become easy, fast and transparent.
