Lara Dutta almost drowned, Akshay Kumar saved her life

Lara Dutta won the title of Miss Universe in the year 2000. After this, he made his Bollywood debut in the year 2003 with the film ‘Andaz’. This scary incident happened to him during the shooting of ‘Andaz’. A dance sequence was being shot in the film, which was taking place on the sea shore. Suddenly a very big and dangerous wave came. That wave swept away both Lara Dutta and her co-actor Akshay Kumar into the sea. Lara was wearing leather clothes at that time. The biggest problem was that he did not know how to swim at all. She went into the water with the wave and started sinking straight down like a stone.
How did Akshay Kumar save his life?
Lara herself told, ‘I went into the water wearing leather clothes. I didn’t know how to swim and I sank like a stone. At that time the situation could have been even more dangerous, but Akshay Kumar immediately helped him. Akshay himself was in water. He caught hold of Lara and pulled her back towards the shore. After this incident, Lara suffered hypothermia (cold shock). His condition had become very bad. The shooting was immediately stopped and he was immediately taken to the hospital. This scary incident had a deep impact on Lara Dutta. She remained afraid of the sea for a long time.
Why did you have to learn swimming?
A few years later, when Akshay Kumar got the offer for the film ‘Blue’, which was a completely underwater action adventure film, he suggested the name of Lara Dutta. There were a lot of sea scenes in the film and the actors had to do a lot of work in water. When Lara came to know about this, her first reaction was to flatly refuse. She called Akshay Kumar and said that she could not play this role because she was very afraid of water. Akshay Kumar’s answer was very direct and motivating. He said, ‘Learn to swim.’ Laughing, Lara said, ‘At the age of thirty he asked me to learn diving. I said, ‘I am the only one who has been found crazy.’ But ultimately he agreed to Akshay’s request. Lara Dutta learned swimming at the age of 30. He courageously defeated the fear arising from that old incident and signed for the film ‘Blue’.
Akshay Kumar was saved from becoming a victim of shark
The film ‘Blue’ was released in 2009. It was one of the biggest and biggest underwater films of Bollywood at that time. The film was shot in the open sea, which provided a lot of practice for the entire cast and crew. Learning to swim was not the only challenge during the shooting. There were many other dangerous things too. Scenes were shot with real sharks in the film. Akshay Kumar himself came very close to death during the shooting of the climax scene of the film. His head collided with a sunken ship in 150 feet deep water. Blood started flowing from his head, yet he was somehow able to return to the surface in the shark-infested water. Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan were also in lead roles in the film ‘Blue’. At the time of release, this film was not very successful at the box office. But this film was very special for Lara Dutta. This film gave him a chance to conquer his fear.
