Latest iPhone security fixes should be installed ASAP to avoid malicious attacks- The Week

While iPhone users await iOS 18.2 for new Apple Intelligence features, Apple has rolled out iOS 18.1.1 update for iPhones with “important security fixes”.

Apple said to protect customer, it does not reveal or confirm security issues until an investigation is carried out and patches are released.

The update is available for iPhone XS and newer models. A similar update is available for iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 7th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

Citing two of the issues, Apple said processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to issues in the JavaScript Core framework and WebKit. The JavaScript bug led to arbitrary code execution while the WebKit snag led to cross-site scripting attack.

The issue was actively exploited on Intel-based Mac systems, according to Apple. However, the Cupertino giant has not clarified if the bugs affect newer Mac systems.

How to install iOS 18.1.1

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update
  • Click download and install
  • After downloading, you can update immediately or choose Remind Me Later.

When will Apple roll out iOS 18.2?

iOS 18.2 is expected to be rolled out in December. It will be loaded with exciting Apple Intelligence features like advanced writing tools, ChatGPT integration with Siri and image-generating features.
