New Delhi, 6 April. The Union Home Ministry has provided ‘X’ category security to former tennis player Leander Paes, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party before the West Bengal Assembly elections. Now CISF personnel will be deployed for the security of PACE. Leander Paes is one of the big names in Indian tennis and is popular across the country. He is likely to get a big role in the West Bengal Assembly elections. He may have to tour the entire state for election campaigning.
In such a situation, after assessing his security concerns, the Home Ministry has decided to give him ‘X’ category security. X category security is provided by 2 armed police personnel. There are no commandos involved in this. Recently Leander Paes has joined Bharatiya Janata Party. After joining BJP, Paes met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leander Paes had said that Modi ji called me and honored me as a Bengali and also shared his vision regarding youth and sports. Today I am present here to carry forward the same mission.
Paes had said that PM Modi has entrusted him with important responsibility in the preparations for the 2036 Olympics. The passion to serve the country is fully present in them and they are ready to work for the country while facing every challenge. Leander Paes is the only Indian tennis player to have won a medal for the country in the singles category at the Olympics. Paes won a bronze medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Apart from this, Paes has won Grand Slam titles 18 times including doubles and mixed doubles.
