Legal Drama ‘Good Partner’ Shines with Seven SBS Drama Awards
The TV drama Good Partner, which revolves around the life of divorce lawyers, came out as a clear favourite of the season, collecting seven awards under its name at the SBS Drama Awards.
The series traces the professional and personal lives of Cha Eun-kyung, a veteran divorce lawyer played by Jang Na-ra, and Han Yu-ri, a young attorney portrayed by Nam Ji-hyun. The two women take on complicated divorce cases and grapple with issues of infidelity, stereotypes, and emotional pain in an honest and realistic way.
Good Partner was a hit in its July-to-September run. Nielsen Korea reported that the drama premiered with a nationwide viewership rating of 7.8%, reached a peak of 17.7% in its seventh episode, and ended on a strong note with a 15.2% rating.
The drama was widely acclaimed for its realistic portrayal of the divorce process and its progressive approach to dismantling stereotypes, making it SBS TV’s most-watched drama of the year.
Jang Na-ra, who played the lead role of Cha Eun-kyung, achieved a career milestone by becoming the first entertainer to win grand prizes in both singing and acting. She previously won the Grand Prize at MBC TV’s Top 10 Singer Award in 2002 for her hit album Sweet Dream.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Jang expressed her gratitude during her acceptance speech:
Thanks to meeting a good partner like this, I can hold this award. I owe so much to Nam Ji-hyun. As I grow older, I realize how miraculous it is that people who don’t know me still support and watch my work. I’m deeply grateful and will continue striving to be a curious actor.
The Director’s Award was presented to Park Shin-hye for her transformation in The Judge from Hell, where she portrayed a fallen devil inhabiting the body of a judge.
“I received the rookie actor award at the SBS Drama Awards 21 years ago. I’m incredibly thankful for viewers’ enthusiastic response to my transformation this time.”
Good Partner did well on its storytelling and superb performance, resonating well in the audience and thus securing itself as a cultural phenomenon. The wins at SBS Drama Awards prove how hard work of authentic stories wins the day and is honored by its cast and crew.
